The M4 Torch is a beacon of digital advertising since 2005. Developed and operated by JCDecaux, it is a Norman Foster designed tower with 2 digital screens. Located on the M4 motorway between Heathrow Airport and central London.
A key feature of this iconic site is the illuminated ‘torch’ at the top. The torch effect is created by LED lighting with custom control of the colour.
As specialists in illuminating OOH sites. Bright Green Technology worked on a recent project to upgrade the Torch with the latest technology. Our architectural lighting range was an ideal fit, with powerful RGBW lamps, IP rated for external use.
The project was challenging – from an operational and technical perspective. An onsite trial meant specialist access equipment and a focus on site safety procedures. Testing needed a remote observer and an engineer adjusting the luminaires to achieve the optimum result.
For lighting control element, we used our proprietary smart DMX controller which allows remote access via a 4G router and sim card. This solid-state controller is easy to use and ideal for remote programming of RGB systems by phone or PC. RGBW setting are configurable and it can also set sequences and transition effects.
This was a fascinating project to work on and needed the full range of our experience.
