What are LED Light Sheets?
LED Light Sheets are thin, acrylic panels illuminated by LEDs. They provide uniform illumination and are commonly used in applications such as signage, backlighting, and architectural lighting.
How do LED Light Sheets work?
LED Light Sheets are illuminated by LEDs located at the edges of the panel. To manage the light, the acrylic is engraved with shallow lines in a customised pattern. When powered, the LED light travels through the panel and is emitted evenly across the surface. The pattern is unique for every panel size.
What are the advantages of LED Light Sheets?
• Even lighting: There are no stripes or hot-spots, even at low depths• Energy efficiency: LED Light Sheets are highly efficient compared to most alternative LED backlighting systems
• Slim profile: LED light sheets are thin, making them suitable for applications where space is limited.
• Zero maintenance: LED systems are maintenance free, reducing lifetime costs.
• Custom shapes: LED light sheets can be made to order in custom shapes
What are the common applications of LED light sheets?
LED Light Sheets are extremely versatile and can be used in various applications, including:
• Signage: LED light sheets are often used to create illuminated signs for businesses, shops, and advertising purposes
• Backlighting: backlighting displays, graphics, and advertisements in retail stores, museums, and exhibitions
• Architectural lighting: LED light sheets can be integrated into architectural features such as ceilings, walls, and floors to enhance aesthetics and provide ambient lighting
• Retail displays: illuminating product displays in retail stores, enhancing visibility and attracting customers
Can LED Light Sheet be customised?
Yes, LED light sheets are customisable to fit specific requirements:
Shape: LED Light Sheet are usually rectangular but can also be manufactured in circles and customised shapes
Holes and cut-outs: Fixing holes and shaped cut-outs can be added during manufacture
Colour: LED Light Sheets are available in a wide range of colour temperatures and in specific colours. Colour changing RGB and RGBW panels are also available.
LED specification: LEDs can be specified in high CRI, high efficiency, close bin or high R9 variants
Double-sided: LED Light Sheets can be single or double-sided
Are LED Light Sheets dimmable?
Yes, LED Light Sheets are dimmable and can be connected to lighting control protocols such as DALI, 0-10V and DMX. They are compatible with systems such as Lutron and can be integrated into a lighting scheme
What sizes of LED Light Sheet are available?
Light distribution from 1 edge is even for 600mm. This means a maximum panel size in one dimension of 1200mm to ensure diffuse lighting. In the other dimension, the maximum size is 3000mm, however a practical maximum of 2000mm is recommended for ease of handling. Larger sizes are available and should be discussed with the manufacturer to check light quality and efficient operation
How are LED Light Sheets installed?
Depth: Aim for at least 5mm space between the LED Light Sheet and the backlit surface. This ensures even lighting. Smaller depths are possible but should be checked before ordering
Size: If the target area for backlighting exceeds the LED Light Sheet maximum size, panels can be butted together. The join line is visible but cannot be seen once the depth reaches 80mm
Adhesive materials: Materials should not be adhered to the surface of the LED Light Sheet. The adhesion changes the light distribution of the surface and causes hot spots
Location: LED Light Sheets can be installed with Z-brackets, screws or supported by a frame. Twisting, bending and loading should be avoided
Is it possible to predict the appearance of LED Light Sheet backlighting?
In many cases there are previous project references to review or material samples that have been tested and recorded
Is there anything else to think about?
LED Light Sheets are powered by LED drivers and operate at 12/24V. The drivers should be located nearby and in a ventilated area
LED Light Sheets are IP54 and not recommended for wet locations
Unloading, storage and installation should be planned carefully to avoid damage such as scratches and scuffs. These will damage the lighting performance
